Building Jewish Pride Through Sports

Thank you to Matthew Jedwab, a member of our gold

Thank you to Matthew Jedwab, a member of our gold medal winning U-18 boys basketball team at last summer’s Pan Am Maccabi Games in Mexico City. Matthew started Helping Through Hoops, an annual charity basketball tournament in his community hosted by his high school HAFTR. When the 2020 tournament rolled around in February, Matthew chose Maccabi USA’s Maccabi Vision Project (MVP) as the recipient of this year’s funds – over $4000! Matthew experienced first-hand the impact of MVP when his team volunteered this past summer in Mexico. Created by Dr. Marc Backal, MVP provides eye exams and prescription glasses to under-served communities. MVP conducted 800+ exams and provided 500+ pairs of glasses in Mexico. Since the program began, MVP has conducted 3000+ exams and distributed 1400+ pairs of glasses.
