Philadelphia, PA, December 20, 2017 – On December 2, 2017 at the Annual Conference in Newark, NJ, Maccabi USA honored the recipients of the Toby Ehrlich Memorial Award. This award was presented to three outstanding Juniors/Youth soccer athletes who achieved success on the soccer field. The recipients are Jamie Diluzio of North Woodmere, NY, Naomi Jaffe of McLean, VA, and Roee Maor of Demarest, NJ. Jamie is a member of the Youth Men’s Soccer Team, Naomi is a member of the Juniors Girls’ Soccer Team, and Roee is a member of the Juniors Boys’ Soccer Team at the 20th World Maccabiah Games.

This award commemorates the memory of Toby Ehrlich, who we tragically lost at a young age. He was a member of the Juniors Boys’ bronze-medal winning Soccer Team at 14th Maccabiah Games in 1993. Toby was so impacted by his Maccabiah experience and this award honors his legacy. The award was given to individuals who are demonstrate the Maccabi Spirit at the Maccabiah Games which were so dear to Toby.

This past summer, we took a USA delegation of 1,131 team members to the 20th Maccabiah Games in Israel. The Maccabiah Games are a celebration of Jewish Strength and Solidarity. Team USA’s success is not only measured by the medals won, but by the impact that the Maccabiah experience had on their lives as well as the friendships they formed.

Maccabi USA builds Jewish pride through sports, generating the emotional intensity, high ideals, and powerful camaraderie of competition.  We connect athletes, volunteers, and supporters with the global Jewish community.  Our athletic, educational, and cultural experiences build Jewish identity, perpetuate Jewish continuity worldwide, and strengthen support for the State of Israel.
