MACCABI USA ANNOUNCES THE JUNIORS FENCING TEAM FOR THE 20TH WORLD MACCABIAH GAMES

Philadelphia, PA, June 5, 2017 – The Maccabi USA Fencing Co-Chairs Philippe Bennett and Stu Rothenberg, along with Co-Head Coaches Jared Hammond and Josh Hammond are pleased to announce the Juniors Fencing Team for the 20th World Maccabiah Games, which will take place July 4-18, 2017 in Israel. Maccabi USA will bring a team of 1,100+ athletes who will be part of the 10,000 Jewish athletes from 80 countries, participating in 43 different sports.

The Epee athletes are Sophie Goldberg of Newtown, PA, Council Rock North High School; Sophie Goodman of Marietta, GA; Alan C. Pope High School; Anna Lanzman of Brooklyn, NY, Stuyvesant High School; Benjamin Rogak of Stonybrook, NY, Ward Melville High School; Liat Sauberman of West Nyack, NY, Christa McAuliffe School of Arts and Sciences; Nicholas “Nika” Topaz of Chicago, IL, Lincoln High School; and Myles Wolf of New York, NY, Sanford H. Calhoun High School.

The Foil athletes are Emerson Blutt of New York, NY, Collegiate School; Zane Daniels of Manhattan, NY, Trinity School; Liana Keesing of McLean, VA, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology; Anna Prilutsky of Jersey City, NJ, McNair Academic High School; Logan Rechler of Mendham, NJ, Newark Academy; and Jordan Rusoff of Scarsdale, NY, The Masters School.

The Sabre athletes are Abby Benson-McCarthy of Centreville, VA, Westfield High School; Michael Fazylov of Marietta, GA, The Walker School; Ashley Gomerman of Melville, NY, Half Hollow Hills High School East; Amit Hanadari-Levy of North Bethesda, MD, Walter Johnson High School; Nathan Milgram of San Jose, CA, Kehillah Jewish High School; Lia Pelech of Mettawa, IL, Vernon Hills High School.

Since 1932, over 62,000 athletes have participated in the Maccabiah Games, in a celebration of Jewish Strength and Solidarity. Team USA’s success is not only measured by the medals won, but by the impact that the Maccabiah experience had on their lives as well as the friendships they formed.
