Maccabi Access mission to Israel
Maccabi USA and Maccabi World Union are excited to announce the May 2020 Maccabi Access mission to Israel
“Even though we come from different backgrounds and speak different languages, our connection as Jews and disabled athletes united us as one”
Jessica Hollier Davidson, Maccabi USA Access Athlete, 2019
Maccabi USA puts great importance in promoting Paralympic sports and in providing equal opportunities for athletes with disabilities. To support this vision the Maccabi Access Program was
created with the first trip taking place in the Spring of 2019. The Maccabi Access Program is a celebration of sport, exploration of Jewish identity, and bridge for American Jews to connect to Israel and the Jewish Community worldwide.
In addition to sports competition, athletes participated in guided tours of Israel’s most significant heritage sites, attended lectures on a variety of topics, and enjoyed “meet and greets” with Israeli athletes and Paralympians. During their stay in Israel, the athletes also visited the Israel Sport Center for the Disabled, Beit Halochem-support center for wounded Israeli veterans, and the Israeli Olympic Center.
This year our mission’s featured sport is wheelchair tennis. We are currently recruiting disabled Jewish athletes to join us for this amazing experience. The cost per athlete is $2,500, Maccabi USA provides a generous subsidy to the selected athletes to partially cover the cost of their travel, programing and accommodations.
