JEFF KATZ APPOINTED AS HEAD COACH OF MACCABI USA’S OPEN WOMEN’S SOCCER TEAM FOR THE 15TH EUROPEAN MACCABI GAMES

Philadelphia, PA, November 6, 2018 – Marc Backal, Open Women’s Soccer Chair for 2019 European Maccabi Games, is pleased to announce the appointment of Jeff Katz as Head Coach of the Open Women’s Soccer Team for the 15th European Maccabi Games. The Games will take place July 28-August 7, 2019 in Budapest, Hungary. Katz will complete his second year as Associate Head Coach and fifth overall for the MIT Women’s Soccer Team in Cambridge, MA.

“I am honored to be appointed the Open Women’s Soccer Head Coach for the European Maccabi Games” said Katz. “The challenge of building a team that is prepared to compete internationally while carrying themselves in a way that represents the values of the Maccabi USA Mission is something I am looking forward to. The athletes I know who have competed in prior Maccabi Games described it as a life-changing experience. To be a part of something so impactful on the lives of Jewish athletes from around the world is an awesome responsibility that I will embrace as head coach. I can’t wait for the games this summer!”

In his time with the Engineers, the team has won four NEWMAC regular season titles, as well as NEWMAC Tournament Championships in 2017 and 2018. This fall the MIT women finished with an overall record of 16-2-3 and will advance to the NCAA tournament for the fourth time in Katzs’ five years with the program. In 2017, he helped lead the team to the Sweet 16, a 20-2-1 record, and a #12 national ranking from the United Soccer Coaches organization. MIT’s coaches were recognized by the United Soccer Coaches Association as the New England Coaching Staff of the Year for Division III Women’s Soccer. Additionally, Katz coaches the New England Futbol Club’s 2001 girls in the National Premier League, as well as their U23 women in the New England Premier League. The 2019 European Maccabi Games will be the first time he will participate as a member of Team USA.
