Games Information >>

Mexico City in July

  • Daily temperatures are in the 70’s, with highs in the low 80’s
  • At night, it can be cool with average temperatures in the 50’s and 60’s
  • Typically rains in the afternoon, most competitions will be held in the morning

Budapest in July/August

  • Daily temperatures are in the mid 70’s, with highs in the high 80’s
  • At night, it can be cool with average temperatures in the mid 50’s and 60’s
  • May be humid or muggy at times

There are opportunities for athletes and a variety of volunteer staff to join the team. Volunteer staff positions include accommodations managers, coaches, and medical team members- athletic trainers, doctors, and nurses.

The 14th Pan American Maccabi Games are being held in Mexico City, Mexico.

The 15th European Maccabi Games are being held in Budapest, Hungary.

Pan American Games: July 5 – July 15, 2019

European Games: July 28-August 7, 2019

*Note: these dates may or may not encompass the team travel dates.

Jewish athletes born 2004 and earlier. There are some birth year exceptions based on the sport regulations. Please consult your sport specific page here.

Maccabi USA also provides opportunities for accommodations managers, coaches, and medical team members.

All USA citizens who are Jewish are eligible to play for Team USA, even if they competed for another country before becoming a USA citizen.  Any non-citizen in possession of a U.S. Green Card or E-2 Investment Visa may also participate as a member of Team USA.

Yes, background checks will be performed for all accommodations managers, coaches, and medical team members within 30 days of their appointment to Team USA. 

Pan American Games: 22+ sports

European Games: 18+ sports

If your sport is not being offered for one of the Games, it may be offered at the other event. If not, please email us so we can let you know when your sport may be offered- maccabi@maccabiusa.com.

Pan American Games: Many countries from the Americas and around the world will participate. Past participants have included: Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Great Britain, Israel, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, United States, and Venezuela.

European Games: Many countries from Europe and around the world will participate. Past participants have included: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, and United States.

Pan American Games: approximately 400+ team members

European Games: approximately 200+ team members

The selection process will vary by sport. Past methods have included national ranking, verified times, tryouts, video footage, or other means.  After the application is submitted, you will be notified about the selection process by the chair and/or coach of your sport and team.

Some sports will have a training camp in the USA prior to departing for their international flight. You will receive those details from your respective chair or coach. Additional costs may be incurred. Although not required, it is encouraged that all team members participate in training camp.

Yes! Educational, cultural, and social activities and tours are planned. They are dependent on sports schedules. These activities are coordinated by the relevant Games Organizers.

Pan American Games: Centro Deportivo Israelita (CDI) will have numerous competitions in addition to the other facilities in Mexico City. The CDI will also host many of the cultural, educational and recreational activities.

European Games: Competitions will be spread around the city of Budapest. More information can be found at http://emg2019.com.

No. The baggage fees are not necessarily included in your program fees. If your sport requires specialized sporting equipment or over-sized gear, you may incur added fees from the airline. 

The baggage fees for the Pan American Games will not be included in the program fees. Maccabi USA is still working to determine this information for the European Games. 

Yes! We advise all participants to purchase trip insurance. Please take into account that you will be participating in a sports competition, which may require additional coverage. Check with your provider for more details and coverage options.

The travel dates are still TBD. 

Juniors, Youth, and Open athletes and all volunteer staff will depart with Team USA, as their international flight is included in their program fees.

Masters athletes will book their own flights.

Several flights are reserved for Team USA to depart the United States from various airports. Departure airports are TBD, but may include JFK, EWR, LAX and MIA (subject to change). All Juniors, Youth, and Open Athletes, along with all Coaches, Managers and Medical personnel are required to take the group flight unless special permission is granted by the Maccabi USA Office. Please note that some flights may have a supplemental fee.

Certain teams may have training camps in the USA prior to departure and will fly together.

All USA Team members are personally responsible for their domestic travel arrangements to/from the USA departure city. Maccabi USA will ask you to provide your domestic travel information before departure.

Program Fees >>

For all participants, the program fee includes your hotel accommodations, ground transportation, Games registration, apparel package, meals, supplemental medical insurance, and more. 

The international flight from select departure locations is included for all Juniors, Youth, and Open athletes and volunteer staff. Masters athletes will book their own flights. Baggage fees may not be included.

Maccabi USA is a 501c(3) not-for-profit organization. Personal payments are tax-deductible only for the amounts for which you are not receiving goods/services.

Juniors, Youth, and Open Athletes: $360

Masters Athletes: $1,000

Accommodations Managers, Coaches, and Medical team: the full cost as outlined on your invoice is tax-deductible.

Fundraising >>

The money need not be an out-of-pocket expense; it may be raised. Maccabi USA can provide you with a sample fundraising letter, fundraising web page, and raffle tickets to assist you in your fundraising efforts. Any way that you can think “out of the box” for your fundraising goals is certainly suggested. Check out our fundraising suggestions here.

Maccabi USA will need your deposit submitted on time for your participation, as outlined in your invoice.

Unfortunately, there are no scholarship opportunities for the 2019 Games provided by Maccabi USA. This is a self-funded program, but you are encouraged to seek financial assistance from outside organizations. Check out our fundraising suggestions here.

Apparel >>

Yes! Team members will receive a variety of apparel items that are included in the program fees. Maccabi USA will send an apparel package to each Team member prior to the Games. Sizes and updated shipping information will be collected in Spring 2019. Additional items will be available for purchase through the Maccabi USA website.

You will receive a Team USA competitive uniform package or other Team USA sport related apparel.

Accommodations >>

Masters Athletes have a few options for their lodging accommodations. The basic accommodations, which are included in the program fee, include a double occupancy hotel room with another team member. Alternative packages are available through the Games Organizers and the Maccabi USA Mission for an added fee. In some cases, you may be able to create your own arrangements. Maccabi USA will provide more information on package options when available.

Athletes can expect to be housed in rooms of two or more based on the room set-up. The Games Organizers have yet to assign hotels to delegations.

Supporter Travel >>

There is a travel program designed specifically for families and friends of Team USA participants that want to travel to Mexico City and Budapest. The Mission information will be sent out to each USA participant and their family. Masters Athletes can participate in the Mission as well. We highly encourage family and friends of Maccabi USA to be part of the Mission to best experience Mexico City and Budapest, and all that the Games and host city has to offer.
