Softball

1985, 1989, 1993, 1997 Maccabiah USA Organizing Committees

David is originally from Salem, MA but discovered his love for Florida when he began his studies at the University of Miami. He has always been passionate about sports, a passion he will never outgrow. David played intramural sports and also became very involved with his fraternity, Tau Epsilon Phi, where he was chancellor in his junior year. He graduated with a BBA in Accounting in 1964.

David first became involved with Maccabi USA in 1982 when he was introduced to the organization because of his love of sports, kids and Israel (not necessarily in that order). He is considered one of the ‘founding fathers’ of the Bat and Ball sports program for Maccabi USA. The first Softball competition took place at the 12th Maccabiah Games in 1985.

David has served on the Board of Directors for the organization and has attended almost every Plenum meeting and Congress in Israel since he first got involved. It was at the 1989 Maccabiah Games that he brought the Men’s Softball team to the Israel Sport Center for the Disabled (ISCD) as part of the Lev L’Lev (heart to heart) program where he fell in love with the kids. He has since become a major supporter and volunteer with the ISCD.

David’s commitment to kids, sports and Israel is unwavering. He remains in touch with the athletes he first got to know in 1985, stating that the relationships he has made with athletes and volunteers are amongst the greatest gifts he has received from his volunteer work with Maccabi USA.

David and his partner Judi Gottlieb reside in Fort Lauderdale. Between them they have four children, Michelle, Shawn (Sara), Ben and Geri, and three grandchildren, Mikalah, Logan and Ellie.
