The 21st Maccabiah will be held in Israel. Competitions will take place in Haifa, Jerusalem, Netanya and Tel Aviv. Specific sports, age categories and venues will be available in spring of 2021

The selection process will vary by sport. Past methods have included national ranking, verified times, tryouts, video footage, or other means.  After the application is submitted, you will be notified about the selection process by the chair and/or coach of your sport and team.

Yes, background checks will be performed for all managers, coaches, and medical team members within 30 days of their appointment to Team USA.

Other teams will also have training in the US prior to their July 13 departure. Details on training camps will be available in spring of 2021 to all Team Members.
• Masters athletes should be in Israel by July 20 and will have the opportunity to take their own international flight or take a Maccabi USA flight option with Gil Travel.

The competitions take place between July 20 – August 2, 2021

There are opportunities for athletes and a variety of volunteer staff to join the team. Volunteer staff positions include managers, coaches, and medical team members- athletic trainers, doctors, and nurses. To be considered for any position on the team, please start by completing the application for the 21st Maccabiah here.

Volunteer staff position applications must be accompanied by a professional resume and references.

Jewish athletes born 2006 and earlier. There are some birth year exceptions based on the sport regulations. Please consult your sport specific page here.

Maccabi USA also provides opportunities for accommodations managers, coaches, and medical team members.

All Jews by birth or Jews by choice are welcome to apply for a position as part of a MACCABI USA delegation.  Jews by choice may have been converted by Rabbis of any denomination. Jews by birth qualify if the following conditions are all met: One of their birth parents or adoptive parents is Jewish. They consider themselves to be Jewish. They do not identify as being a member of another religion. Other circumstances deserving of consideration will be determined by the Eligibility Committee.

Team members in the Juniors/Youth and Open Categories will participate Israel Connect, a week-long intensive experiential education and athletic training program including nearly 1,000 team members. Prior to Israel Connect, (July 13-20)

Educational, cultural, and social activities and tours are planned during the competition. They are dependent on sports schedules. These activities are coordinated by the relevant Games Organizers in Israel.

Some sports will have a training camp in Israel, prior to Israel Connect. Others will have training in the USA prior to departing for their international flight. You will receive those details from your respective chair or coach. Additional costs may be incurred. Although not required, it is encouraged that all team members participate in training camp.

Outbound flights from New York to Tel Aviv are approximately 10 hours. Return flights from Tel Aviv to New York are approximately 12 hours. 

Outbound flights from Los Angeles to Tel Aviv are approximately 14 hours. Return flights from Tel Aviv to New York are approximately 15 hours.

Several flights are reserved for to depart the United States from various airports. Departure airports are TBD, but may include JFK, EWR, LAX (subject to change). All Juniors, Youth, and Open Athletes, along with all Coaches, Managers and Medical personnel are required to take the group flight unless special permission is granted by the Maccabi USA Office. Please note that some flights may have a supplemental fee.

Certain teams may have training camps in the USA prior to departure and will fly together.

All USA Team members are personally responsible for their domestic travel arrangements to/from the USA departure city. Maccabi USA will ask you to provide your domestic travel information before departure.

Maccabi USA is a 501c(3) not-for-profit organization. Personal payments are tax-deductible only for the amounts for which you are not receiving goods/services.

Volunteers (Coaches, Managers, Medical Team) – Reasonable expenses incurred by volunteers, related to travel and lodging, for them to complete their work on behalf of Maccabi may be tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Volunteers are asked to make a minimum contribution to the organization in the amounts indicated.

Athletes – Payments directed towards an athlete’s personal financial commitment are not tax deductible as the athlete is receiving a benefit. The financial commitment for athletes in the Juniors/Youth and Open categories is $8,500. The fair market value of this experience is $8,000; therefore, up to $500 may be tax deductible. Athletes should contact the office for more information. The financial commitment for athletes in the Masters category is $11,000*. The fair market value of this experience is $5,000*; therefore, $6,000 is the minimum recommended charitable contribution and may be tax deductible.
*The registration fee will fluctuate based on the accommodations package selected by the athlete.

Other contributions – Tax deductible charitable contributions may be made to the organization (general scholarship fund, sport or team) so long as they are not designated to support a specific athlete’s financial commitment to participate. Please consult with your tax advisor.

The program fees vary by role on the team. 

Juniors, Youth, and Open Athletes: $8,500

Masters Athletes: $5,000 registration fees + $6,000 tax deductible charitable gift

Coaches, Doctors & Accommodations Managers: $3,000 minimum contribution in the form of a tax-deductible charitable gift

Athletic Trainers: $ $2,000 minimum contribution in the form of a tax-deductible charitable gift

*Note: All program fees are subject to change. The above prices do not include greens fees for golfers and horse rental for equestrians. There may be supplemental fees for certain team flights.

For all participants, the program fee includes your hotel accommodations for 14 nights, ground transportation, Games registration, apparel package, meals, supplemental medical insurance, and more.

The international flight from select departure locations is included for all Juniors, Youth, and Open athletes and volunteer staff along with participation in the Israel Connect program Masters athletes will book their own flights.

Maccabi USA has a scholarship fund for all Juniors/Youth/Open/Para athletes who qualify for need-based and merit athlete scholarships. Scholarship information and application will be sent upon appointment to the team. Masters athletes and all volunteer positions are not eligible for scholarships. Please refer to here for additional information.

The money need not be an out-of-pocket expense; it may be raised. Maccabi USA can provide you with a sample fundraising letter, fundraising web page, and raffle tickets to assist you in your fundraising efforts. Any way that you can think “out of the box” for your fundraising goals is certainly suggested. 

Maccabi USA will need your deposit submitted on time for your participation, as outlined in your invoice.

Yes! Team members will receive a variety of apparel items that are included in the program fees. Maccabi USA will send an apparel package to each Team member prior to the Games. Sizes and updated shipping information will be collected in Spring 2021. Additional items will be available for purchase through the Maccabi USA website.

Accommodations >>

Athletes can expect to be housed in rooms of two or more based on the room set-up. The Games Organizers have yet to assign specific hotels.

Masters Athletes have a few options for their lodging accommodations. The basic accommodations, which are included in the program fee, include a double occupancy hotel room with another team member. Alternative packages are available through the Games Organizers and the Maccabi USA Supporters Mission for an added fee. In some cases, you may be able to create your own arrangements. Maccabi USA will provide more information on package options when available.

Supporter Travel >>

There is a travel program designed specifically for families and friends of the USA Team participants that want to travel toIsrael . The Supporters Mission information will be sent out to each USA participant and their family. Masters Athletes can participate in the Supporters Mission as well. We highly encourage family and friends of Maccabi USA to be part of the Supporters Mission to best experience Israel and all that the Games has to offer.
