Mexico City in July

  • Daily temperatures are in the 70’s, with highs in the low 80’s
  • At night, it can be cool with average temperatures in the 50’s and 60’s
  • Typically rains in the afternoon, most competitions will be held in the morning
  • There is limited humidity

Budapest in July/August

  • Daily temperatures are in the mid 70’s, with highs in the high 80’s
  • At night, it can be cool with average temperatures in the mid 50’s and 60’s
  • May be humid or muggy at times

There are opportunities for athletes and a variety of volunteer staff to join the team. Volunteer staff positions include accommodations managers, coaches, and medical team members- athletic trainers, doctors, and nurses.

The 14th Pan American Maccabi Games are being held in Mexico City, Mexico.

The 15th European Maccabi Games are being held in Budapest, Hungary.

Pan American Games: July 5 – July 15, 2019

European Games: July 28-August 7, 2019

*Note: these dates may or may not encompass the team travel dates.

Pan American Games: July 7th at the Arena Mexico City

European Games: July 30th at the Hidegkuti Nándor MTK Stadium

Jewish athletes born 2004 and earlier. There are some birth year exceptions based on the sport regulations. Please consult your sport specific page here.

Maccabi USA also provides opportunities for accommodations managers, coaches, and medical team members.

All USA citizens who are Jewish are eligible to play for Team USA, even if they competed for another country before becoming a USA citizen.  Any non-citizen in possession of a U.S. Green Card or E-2 Investment Visa may also participate as a member of Team USA.

Yes, background checks will be performed for all accommodations managers, coaches, and medical team members within 30 days of their appointment to Team USA. 

Pan American Games: 22+ sports

European Games: 18+ sports

If your sport is not being offered for one of the Games, it may be offered at the other event. If not, please email us so we can let you know when your sport may be offered- maccabi@maccabiusa.com.

Pan American Games: Many countries from the Americas and around the world will participate. Past participants have included: Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Great Britain, Israel, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, United States, and Venezuela.

European Games: Many countries from Europe and around the world will participate. Past participants have included: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, and United States.

Pan American Games: approximately 400+ team members

European Games: approximately 200+ team members

The selection process will vary by sport. Past methods have included national ranking, verified times, tryouts, video footage, or other means.  After the application is submitted, you will be notified about the selection process by the chair and/or coach of your sport and team.

Some sports will have a training camp in the USA prior to departing for their international flight. You will receive those details from your respective chair or coach. Additional costs may be incurred. Although not required, it is encouraged that all team members participate in training camp.

Yes! Educational, cultural, and social activities and tours are planned. They are dependent on sports schedules. These activities are coordinated by the relevant Games Organizers.

Pan American Games: Centro Deportivo Israelita (CDI) will have numerous competitions in addition to the other facilities in Mexico City. The CDI will also host many of the cultural, educational and recreational activities.

European Games: Competitions will be spread around the city of Budapest. More information can be found at http://emg2019.com.
