The fact that Vienna was chosen for the 2011 European Maccabi Games gives the Games a very special cultural significance. It is the first time since 1945 that Jewish athletes from dozens of nations will come together as participants of the tournament on a territory of former Nazi Germany.  In July 2011 approximately 2,000 athletes will compete in Vienna where great competition will be held, old contacts can be renewed and new ones created!

CHAVERIM
In Hebrew, "Chaverim" means friends.  For the U.S. Maccabi Australia International Games Team, Chaverim is a program that requires a shared commitment from all of us to fund the U.S. Team and to ensure the success of the Games.  Every member of the U.S. Team must contribute an amount in support of the Maccabi Australia International Games and Maccabi USA.  Chaverim funds are a contribution to Maccabi USA and are non-refundable.  The money need not be an out-of-pocket expense. It may be raised.  Maccabi USA has a variety of programs that may assist you in your fundraising efforts.

The required Chaverim commitment for the 2010 U.S. Team members is as follows:  Youth athlete - $5,600  Our Australian hosts will be providing Home Hospitality to our athletes in Basketball, Futsal and Soccer in the Youth Division. As a result, we are able to reduce the Chaverim commitment; Open athlete - $7,100; Masters athlete - $7,600; Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches, and Staff - $3,550; and Trainers and Doctors - $1,775.

(ALL OF THESE CHAVERIM COMMITMENTS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.)

Testimonials

Each time I take part in the Pan American Maccabi or World Maccabiah Games reinforces the importance of what we do.? To see kids who a few weeks earlier didn't even know each other become best friends and brothers, and have them relate all that to an incredibly positive Jewish experience is the reason I love to be involved.? As for Argentina, great food, weather, people, and a fascinating city seeping with history.? All in all, it was an incredible two weeks.
