MACCABI USA SEEKING JEWISH VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS FOR 20th WORLD MACCABIAH GAMES

Philadelphia, PA, November 14, 2016 – Maccabi USA is seeking qualified Jewish Volleyball Players to represent Team USA at the 20th World Maccabiah Games in Israel, July 4-18, 2017. Age categories include: Juniors Boys and Girls (birth years 1999-2002) and Open Men and Women (ages generally 18-35). Over 10,000 athletes will compete from 80 countries in 43 sports.

Maccabi USA Volleyball Alumni, Sam Moyerman, Ross Rosner, and Matthew Susson, along with Mark Susson are the Overall Volleyball Co-Chairmen. Juniors Girls’ Head Coach is Joe Reuben from Frederick, MD; Juniors Boys’ Head Coach is Harris Boyes from Churchville, PA; Open Women’s Head Coach is Andrew Brown from Schenectady, NY and Open Men’s Head Coach is Joseph Agrest from Brooklyn, NY.

This is the first year Maccabi USA will be fielding a Junior Boys Volleyball team. Team USA’s Volleyball participants will be part of the overall 1,200+ member Team USA at the 2017 World Maccabiah Games.

“While competing was a thrill, these weren’t just Games to us. Our involvement in the Maccabiah Games helped unite us through our Jewish and athletic identities, and enabled us to be part of a community,” recalled former Maccabi USA Volleyball athlete, Abigail Tufts, “On a global scale, we showed our strength, our teamwork, our pride and loyalty to both our faith and our countries. I cherish every memory and will forever be grateful for the unique experience.”

The World Maccabiah Games are more than an international sporting competition; they are a celebration of Jewish culture, unity and pride. ISRAEL CONNECT, Maccabi USA’s unique cultural and educational program, takes place for seven days prior to the start of the Games. All Juniors, Youth, Open and Paralympic athletes must participate in the program, where they have the opportunity to tour historical and religious sites, take part in cultural identity seminars and train with their teams, all while developing lifelong relationships.

Juniors Boys’ and Girls’, Open Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Tryouts are taking place in December 2016. Applications for the Games must be submitted prior to the tryout. Please visit maccabiusa.com to apply for the Games.
